We like progress

The status bar has traditionally held a nice little progress bar. The problem is that they cease to be visible when you switch to another window or browser tab. This add-on turns the top edge of a tab into a tiny progress bar, so you can keep an eye on things whilst you multitask.

Cardiff Bay Panorama

I have recently spent many hours learning to use Hugin, a photo-stitching application for Linux. It is less automated than some similar apps for Windows, but at least it costs me nothing. Above is one of my most successful efforts, a view of Cardiff Bay taken from the southern end of the barrage.

What a pointless vehicle

The new Audi S5 Sportback is amongst the most pointless vehicles unveiled at Frankfurt's autoshow this year.

QuakeLive on Linux

Quake III Arena was, as for many other gamers of my generation, my first First Person Shooter, or FPS. Over the last ten years the FPS market has been dominated by the consoles and the Windows platform. Fixing a Blackberry Trackball

After owning my Blackberry Curve for 6 months, I found that I could no longer scroll up, which was quite an inconvenience. The usual vigorous scrolling would not release it, so I decided to throw caution to the wind and dismantle it.

Luckily, there is no need to completely dismantle the Curve 8300 or Pearl models to access the trackball, since they are held in by a simple chromed plastic ring.

Here's a guide on how to dismantle the BrackBerry trackball unit and clean the rollers.

I actually kept my phone turned on whilst doing this, since using the red "power button" only puts it in a standby mode, and it takes almost 5 minutes to fully start up from a "battery out" state.
